Where is an Al Anon for the MAGAs?
I’m reading Living with a Narcissist by Daniel Paul and see there are five types of narcissists, including “Antagonistic narcissists … who tend to emphasize rivalry, competition, and comparison with others. . . . they are competitive and argumentative. . . . and often take advantage of other people in whatever ways they can. . . . They distrust others because they view them as competitors or enemies out for the same resources the narcissist covets. Antagonistic narcissists are also less likely to forgive others and more likely to hold grudges or “keep score” in relationships than other types of narcissists.”
It hit me (again) that several of our national public figures in the USA fit this description and one in particular. Our CN aka Chief Narcissist, Donald Trump. The antagonist narcissistic temperament in our flashy extrovert drives him to get maximum attention, 24/7.
Not only that, but most often he loudly beats his chest as a paradoxical combo of a victorious though persecuted man: “A narcissist paints a picture of themselves as being the victim or innocent in all aspects,” as Daniel Paul quotes Karla Grimes.
Our home-grown power victim in the fall of 2023 has even more ways he is literally being persecuted, excuse me I mean prosecuted. Makes him even more likely to gain the sympathy of voters who are taken in by his charisma, the force of his energetic personality.
What does Daniel Paul say about people who are attracted to this type of personality? Who are the Magas? “Narcissists look for codependent and empathic people to abuse,” writes Paul, “who also tend to share in or experience the same emotions as those they are in codependency with.” People who seem to put the needs of others above themselves.
So it’s Trump’s display of being the victim who has ostensibly gained power over those who have hurt him , OR who has the chance to do this, which is so appealing. MAGAs feel helpless and want to share in Trump’s march to gain power over whatever current leadership there is, so as to seem to be a DAvid to the Goliaths of our day, the so-called dark state, the status quo of where we have come in our young republic, in our imperfection and slow pace to improve. MAGAs lack the knowledge, vocabulary and patience to travel the road most taken, the civil and…
